John is a field manager for a major pulp and paper company in the Province. He is responsible for all forest management activities on 12,000 hectares of company-owned and leased lands. Seven years out of university, he has been promoted to this position after various job assignments involving forest inventory, harvesting, and regeneration. He has surveyed forest boundaries, estimated timber volumes, marked trees for harvest, supervised planting crews, co-ordinated fire suppression and road building, and served on a management plan development team.

| Jane is a consulting forester in Antigonish County. She provides specialized services to private woodland owners. Her clients are primarily farmers, professional people, and small saw mill owners. Jane has built her business over the past ten years, and is involved daily in such activities as preparing woodlot management plans, conducting timber land appraisals, undertaking insect and disease assessments, locating access roads and meeting with clients. |

Dwaila is a government-employed forester in Halifax County. After moving to Canada from a professional forestry position in East Timor, he successfully completed the necessary training period and exams for registration as a Registered Professional Forester here in Nova Scotia. He has completed a computerized forest site inventory and is currently working with a wildlife biologist to introduce wild turkeys to the Province. Dwaila is also working with several university researchers and forest company employees to assess the long-term impact of harvesting on water quality within watersheds. |
